Dr. Taube’s research interests include ancient and contemporary Maya ceremonial pageantry and public performance. She recently completed a dissertation on the highland Guatemala community of Momostenango concerning K’iche’ Maya dance and ritual. One of her research topics involved the Maya response to neoliberalism, transnationalism, and globalization as enacted through community festivals and performance. |
Dr. Hutcheson’s ethnographic research centers on the cultural memory, religious practice, and expressive culture of the K’iche’ Maya and their creative response to nearly 500 years of Spanish/indigenous interaction and transculturation, as well as the impact of globalization and tourism in the present generation. |
